Iceland Vacay Day 8 and 9
It was a wonderful trip, and we only wish we could have done more. Perhaps a summer trip will be in our future so we can snorkel between North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, hike a glacier, visit the museums we didn't get to, and drive Rig Road... So much left to do...
Our Last Dawn in Iceland
Overall we enjoyed the Hotel Alda. It was nice to be off the beaten path and, other than we had luggage, the walk to the bus stop/pickup point wasn't much of an inconvenience. Bus Stop 9 if you ever stay there and are arranging for excursions.
Our Room at the Alda Hoel
There were a few odd things about our room. As seen in the picture above, the overhead lights had knitted wool light covers. The king-sized bed had two individual down blankets with sheet cases covering them and a fitted sheet. That's it. There were no closets or drawers - everything was out in the open. Finally, even with the heat turned down, the rooms were hot! Luckily a window opened so we could let in cool air.
Buses and Airports
Then came the tedious part of the trip. We dragged our luggage to Bus Stop 9, caught our shuttle and were dropped off at BSI Reykjavik, the primary bus terminal in Reykjavik. Then we got on another bus to go to the airport.
Hours at the airport were only broken by some random yet intense questioning from airport security. As the sun set, we endured an endless bus ride to our airplane and then finally took off.
On the positive side, they checked our carry-on free of charge not only for this flight but also the Seattle to Kansas City leg.
We chased the sunset across Canada and finally landed in Seattle. With a 12-hour layover, we took another bus to the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center.
The hotel restaurant was closed, and they recommended the nearby 13 Coins SeaTac Restaurant. Standard American food.
After a few hours of sleep, we were back on a bus to get on a plane to land in Kansas City and get on a bus to get to our car. I'm so over buses.
